This
rapper/actor/ producer/co-label owner of
Afterlife Recordz does it all! Dedicated
to livin' large, Tray has been on the big
screen several times and made numerous guest
appearances on popular sitcoms and commercials.
He is a member of Afterlife group, Chillin
Villain Empire (C.V.E), and brings to the
scene his own version of hip-hop
Pimp-Hop!
Tray
started choppin' lyrics in 1990 with his
group and was featured on C.V.E's debut
album, "Gotta Cumm Up!". His song
entitled, "Fool and a Half", opened
many eyes wide to his approach to the growing
artform. At that time, he was also into
extra work on movie and television sets,
networking and learning about Hollywood.
He landed roles on "Don't Be A Menace
"
and was featured several times on "South
Central", "Saved by the Bell"
and "Moesha". His first role on
South Central was as himself on stage at
a local open Mic spot, which depicted a
real life spot Tray was known to rock, called
"Goodlife Café". He was
also the highlight of a popular Coke commercial.
He was an individual who saw the importance
of artists being in control of their art
from two different angles and was down with
Afterlife Recordz and the concept of artists
owning their own label from jump. This man
was featured on a world-renowned LA underground
LP entitled, "Project Blowed",
where he was featured with his group and
contributed a solo song, "Once Upon
A Freak". Project Blowed quickly became
an open Mic spot (located at 4343 Leimert
Blvd) and Tray delivered special packages
from time to time in the form of Pimp-Hop
lyrics there as well. His music can be heard
streaming on the 24/7 broadcast of curbserver.com
(web-community dedicated to the music and
lifestyle of underground hip-hop).
Tray-Loc
dropped the bomb EP in 1995 entitled, "Jean
in DA Front Row" dedicated to that
sister that was always at the for-front
of all goodlifer/project blowedians shows
before her knee injury. This EP featured
other goodlifers such as Tren, Jay Smoov,
Born Allah, Jyant, and group member Filet
of Soul. He has dropped lyrics on C.V.E's
latest album, "Gotta Cumm Up 1999,
Still Broke After All These Years".
Tray also has featured cutz on the debut
LPs from Afterlife, "Welcome to the
Afterlife" and "Declaration of
an Independent".
The
future of this Pimp-Hopper is a non-stopper.
He is now heavily into producing music and
produced his own latest cutz. He also is
about to branch out beyond acting into directing
and writing movies/short films/videos for
Afterlife Recordz as they acquire state
of the art video film/editing equipment.
